Who leads and teaches here

Our imams lead the prayers, give the Friday sermon and teach children, young people and adults. They are there for anyone with questions or worries, whether members of our community, schools, neighbours or anyone else who is interested.

Background
Born in Hamburg. Researcher at the Berlin Institute for Islamic Theology at Humboldt University of Berlin.
Involvement
Muslim chaplain, including at Bützow prison. Discussion groups for young people, meetings with the Hamburg police and panel discussions with representatives of other religions, for example at the Academy of World Religions at the University of Hamburg.

Background
Studied at Al-Azhar University in Egypt, one of the oldest and best-known universities in the Islamic world. After that he worked for decades as an imam in other communities. He has been one of our imams since 2023.
Involvement
Pastoral care and support for families, visits to the sick, and accompanying families at weddings (nikah) and after a death.
